The Mixamo Auto-rigger Download

In this short video, I show how users can shorten the tedious, laborious and time-consuming task of skinning and rigging a humanoid character. The process of skinning and rigging for 3ds Max users who want to take their characters into the 4 th dimension using the Character Animation Toolkit (CAT) or Biped (Character Studio) has never been easier.NOTE: at the time of recording this I had not used the 'symmetry' option when auto-rigging this character. I should have. =) //gDLink to Mixamo Auto-rigger3ds Max CAT is one of four ways users can animate characters inside of 3ds Max. Populate, Biped and MaxBones are also very powerful systems included out-of-the-box with 3ds Max.
My personal favorite as an artists, however, is CAT. For this reason, I thought I'd add some great additional (older) resources on this amazing animation system.Bonus links for people interested in 3ds Max CAT. I understood I'm just saying to do this process shown here has never been faster (time is money) and to show how 3ds max offers four ways to animate characters: Maxbones, Populate, CAT and Biped. Any other 3D softwares only have one (bones) that solution is fully manual (time is money). 2015 Populate can now be baked to Maxbones and those can be converted to Biped or CAT to take advantage of those procedural systems (time is money). Any of the four can be point cached or exported to a game engine too.
Four toolsets all interchangeable and able to point cache or export too other apps and engines. If you take into consideration the overall process its clear there is a super effecient character pipleine that.doesnt require a TD. to be productive:1. Modeling - Graphite tools, Catch123D, ProOptimizer, etc.2. Texturing - Unwrap UV, Render Surface Maps, Viewport Canvas.3. Skinning/rigging/animating - (Mixamo tool option), CAT, Populate, Biped, MaxbonesThis is not meant to be an opinion.
These are facts I'm pointing out because users have so many options to choose from. One of the guys I work with uses Max and just recently gave CAT a try. He was amazed by how quickly he could implement motion into his model. That is what makes 3DSMAX a user friendly tool. Most of the tools are designed to be implemented with very little effort. I do think Max is one of the easiest animation software programs out their but not the most powerful.
The CAT system is still not truly integrated with MAX and creates many restrictions when trying to implement other components into the equation. With that said it still contains many of tools one would need to accomplish many challenging task when animating, especially multi limb characters. I would like more people to post videos about the use of 3rd party application.
Many people are unaware of these tools and this is an excellent portal to display them in. I do like the honest approach to this video.

This partnership is the most efficient way to skin and rig bipedal characters that i have ever seen and i wanted to share it with the community to raise awareness.users can skin and rig a character in minutes. With two clicks they can be converted to CAT or Biped procedural animation systems. Populate characters can now be converted to bones which can be optionally be converted to bipeds or CAT using tools featured on these blogs. Another newer option is to sculpt layers in Mudbox and those can one-click back and forth with a live-link to 3ds Max to create morph targets really easily and efficiently.
3ds max has more character animation tool options that any other software available today and thats just a plain, clear fact, not my opinion.also to add, this blog is about workflow tips and tricks and is not the correct forum for wishlisting. The developers, designers and product managers are all monitoring and addressing user feedback through this forum (link below) as well as other means such as in-person events behind closed doors where invited power-users are helping drive the roadmap for 3ds Max. If you have feedback and wishlists, i highly recommend posting them to the forums at this link. In 2015 we got to several of the top 10 and now the people that voted for those get those votes back and can use them on others things for the team to evaluate.http://3dsmaxfeedback.autodesk.com/forums/80695-general-feature-requests. Great - why not bring the autorig technology directly into Max - OFFLINE?!Take care about the animation tools inside Max first and spare the time and energy put into those glorified 'cloud' based efforts for the time when the groundwork inside of Max has been completed and brought to todays standards. Its a shame how the problems and need for revamp of Skin, Morpher etc. Are neglected for years now while other packages get dual quat based skinning, voxel / heat mapping and what not thrown in.EDIT: Gary - this was not directed to you, but to the people who decide what features get implemented and what 'kind' of implementation it will be.
